WITH the current crisis affecting pollinating insects, I was saddened to read Ken Adams’ letter (June 6). There has never been a more urgent need for everyone to take flowers seriously.
The loss of 97 per cent of our wildflower meadows since the Second World War, habitat destruction, increased use of pesticides, disease and climate change continues to decimate our bees and beneficial insects. Poole council should place a high priority on creating pollinator friendly habitats in our parks, on road verges and public spaces.
It would be good to know what they are doing to encourage pollinators in Poole.
We should all be planting flowers/shrubs that attract bees and pollinators to our gardens, schools, allotments and open spaces.
They look beautiful and provide vital nectar and pollen for these creatures to thrive.
