ON Saturday, May 4, a local restaurant (Flirt) held an evening of performances by local musicians, writers etc. This was the first and it was hoped that, if well attended, it would not be the last.

Starting at nine o’clock it was certainly very well attended. The place was packed with a tumultuous rabble of extremely rude people.

For each one of the six who attempted to perform while I was present there was not even the slightest attempt to be quiet and listen. Even though two microphones were in use, of the six only the two male singers (one so exceptional he should perhaps apply for Britain’s Got Talent), could be at least partially heard. How painful it was to watch these gifted people, struggling and humiliated.

When each performer, by leaving the platform conveyed they had finished, they were greeted with a violent outburst of applause, whoops and whistles.

For me this moronic hypocrisy was the last straw. Bournemouth is well provided with public houses. Since this turbulent gathering of ill mannered middle-aged people were only interested in partying and drinking why were they there?
