MY wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the BSO’s Chilled Out Classics last Saturday, with a fairly enthusiastic audience.
However, other than the excellent conductor, the orchestra never seem happy themselves; when they rise to receive our applause, there is hardly a smile.
Contrast this to the John Wilson orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall proms, and the Andre Ruis orchestra – when they take their applause they invariably smile – and there is a great enthusiasm amongst the orchestra players as they play their instruments.
Come on BSO – smile at the audience and they will smile back!
We all want to be in the same cloud of enthusiasm. Speaking to other concert attenders, I know that they feel the same.
