LET us question why the Highcliffe meeting (Saturday’s Echo) voted 20 to 1 against the proposed wind farm.
Apart from the lady who was heckled for having the temerity to speak ‘for’, nobody in the audience was under the age of 60. I’m 71 and one of the younger ones!
Where were the nurses, builders, teachers, shop assistants etc?
Well, at 2.30pm on a Friday, they were all at work.
Shouldn’t their views on this issue be heard?
If a similar presentation were made to a class of 16 to 18-year-old locals, the vote would also be 20 to 1 – the other way!
Perhaps there was also an element of selfishness in the vote.
If the views are spoilt, it could affect property values and we can’t have that now, can we?
The government and Crown Estate proposed these wind farms because, as a nation, we are faced with soaring fuel prices and an increasing energy shortage.
One can only hope that when they decide the issue that they will put the national interest before local ill-informed prejudice.
