I AM writing in response to your article in Fridays Echo February 8 with reference to the Imax building and Councillor Anne Filer’s quote “The end of the Imax”.

I am sure that along with many other readers I was hoping that it might have read “The end of our councillors”. I wonder how many millions of pounds have been wasted on the biggest white elephant that Bournemouth has ever experienced and the sheer waste of money thrown away on this site, and what happens instead of converting it into what could be the most attractive tourist attraction in the south, ie skating rink etc, they propose to form an outdoor event arena and I quote ‘ready for the summer season’.

Well I would like to remind our councillor that our summer season extends to six weeks during July and August, so what happens with the remaining 46 weeks?

I remember the councillors asking the locals for their input into the future of the Imax. I wonder how many voted for an outdoor events arena.

The artistic impression shows an open area which will face our evil south westerly Atlantic winds blowing directly into the arena. Let us all watch what happens to the arena in the next three years and what happens with a rise in our council taxes to fund what many like myself must believe will be another white elephant and another nail in our councillors’ coffins.

Do us all a favour Bournemouth councillors and move over to inject some ‘new blood’ into the council chambers with new ideas and a little foresight that may begin to point Bournemouth in the right direction and bring back the day trippers and holiday makers to our wonderful area once again.
