FOLLOWING the recent devastating fire at Lytchett Minster School caused by a lightning strike, I remembered a similar incident when a mum and three daughters had a lucky escape from their house in Guest Road, Upton in 2008 after lightning destroyed the whole of the top floor and roof.
At the time, neighbours described hearing an incredible bang and a fire officer said it was ‘the worst lightning strike he had ever seen’.
The school and the house in Guest Road are just over a mile apart.
Is this just a coincidence or is this area prone to lightning strikes?
