WALK through Poole’s Dolphin shopping centre towards the High Street where you will come across a railway level crossing.

When the barrier is down you have two options-wait at the barrier or use the footbridge to cross over the line.

It is the sorry state of this bridge which is giving me cause for concern.

This beautiful old Victorian steel and brick structure features very decorative iron work with very heavy teak handrail and hardwood stepping.

The bridge was built in 1872 and one of the few remaining bridges of its type in the country.

The bridge is look dreadfully shabby with faded and peeling paintwork, brickwork that needs repointing in places, handrailing and stair treads look tired and worn.

Cigarette ends, drink cans and sundry other bits of litter to be seen throughout the bridge together with plants and shrubs growing from all corners and crevices.

To sum up, the bridge is in a filthy state.

Does anybody care about this bridge? It seems not.

Who is responsible for its upkeep? I would dearly like to know.
