I WOULD like to acknowledge the recent kindness of the staff at the Bowlplex at Tower Park in Poole.
Recently, a large group of stroke survivors visited the Bowlplex, accompanied by their partners and volunteers from Bournemouth, Poole and Dorchester Stroke Communication Support and other Stroke Groups. The aim of this gathering was to meet other people in a similar situation and to try tenpin bowling in a relaxed environment.
The event was a great success, thanks to Paul Duncan at Bowlplex, who let us trial the facilities, and to his staff, who made every effort to accommodate our varied needs.
They provided ramps to enable wheelchair access to the alleys, served drinks and food (and we all paid separately!) and were never far away when we needed assistance.
They interacted patiently with the stroke survivors, even when communication was limited.
Their customer service was truly heart-warming and they deserve a big thank you.
Thanks also to Faye Wright (Communication Support Co-ordinator, Bournemouth and Poole) who organised the event, and who works tirelessly to improve the lives of people in Dorset affected by strokes.
More information on the Stroke Association and the services it provides can be found at stroke.org.uk.
