IN support of Councillor Whittaker’s letter of November 20 re the bridge at Throop, may I add that I live very near to the river but on the south side and frequently have to get to Hurn Stores area on my bicycle.

I, and very many of my friends, voted for the Connect2 funding referred to by Cllr Whittaker.

Other Dorset friends voted for funding in Weymouth – their project opened officially earlier this year.

In order to get to Hurn Stores, I have either to cycle via New Road and Parley Cross or via Iford, then double back on myself to cross the A338 at Blackwater and then, on a very busy road, to Hurn (some five plus miles, when I live less than two miles due south of Hurn).

This road is so busy and, the last section, too narrow, with lorries passing in both directions that I have begun to use the extremely poorly maintained ‘cycle’ path (ie pavement) but that is another issue.
