DANGEROUS dogs attacked more than 50 postmen and women locally in a year.

Figures released today by Royal Mail have revealed 52 postal workers in the BH postcode area were victims with a further 23 in the DT post code area of Dorset.

A report, prepared by former High Court Judge Sir Gordon Langley, revealed 3,000 attacks across the UK between April 2011 and April 2012. Now Sir Gordon has called for the introduction of tougher measures against the owners whose dogs attack people on private property.

“It is a matter of real concern to learn of the extent and frequency of attacks,” he said.

Royal Mail group chairman Donald Brydon, added: “Dog attacks cause injuries and terrible trauma to our staff. Nobody should have to endure this and our staff are at an increased risk of such attacks simply because of the job they do.”
