MR Evans (‘It’s sexist to charge more for insurance’ November 8) will be very pleased with the new EU gender pricing rules that are effective as of 22 December 2012.

This means that a very long established insurance principle for premiums based on claims experienced by males, and for females, will be turned on its head.

It is a well-known fact that lady drivers have fewer motor insurance claims, and that each claim is less expensive. Compare that to male drivers, especially younger men!

From 22 December the costing has to be identical for both male motorists and female motorists, all other factors being equal.

Women will see premiums rise, and men will see the cost reduce. Whether this is fair will not be relevant due to the European ruling.
