I JUST had to write in support of the brilliant letter from Alan Burridge (Letters, November 8). He is so, so right to say that the ‘setting down’ charge at Bournemouth Airport is driving customers away.

We always used to look specifically at holidays which would enable us to fly from Bournemouth Airport and as we live close to the airport we would ask friends or family to drop us off there.

Since the introduction of the ‘setting down’ charge I can honestly say I would rather not go abroad on holiday than pay this ridiculous fee which treats customers with total contempt.

Fortunately we don’t have to forego foreign holidays because a short train ride takes us to the door of Southampton Airport where, guess what, you can enter the premises for free.

Yes, the train fare is considerably more than the ‘setting down’ fee at Bournemouth Airport but that is not the point. Nobody likes to think they are being taken for a fool and this particular fee is such blatant exploitation of a captive audience that people will go to enormous lengths to avoid it.

Advice to Bournemouth Airport – drop the ‘drop-off fee’ and then see passenger numbers grow!
