BETH Aitchison smashed three Dorset records in one morning as she warmed up for the British Championships.

The 17-year-old from Bournemouth Collegiate School’s swim academy led a bonanza of record-breaking by four Dorset swimmers in three cities.

Aitchison, 17, recorded times of 31.96, 1:09.57 and 2:17.25 at the Bristol Open Meet to win the 15 and over 50m and 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley.

All three times broke her own Dorset senior long-course records, set last year.

The also took her to seventh, 12th and 17th respectively in the current British rankings.

In the 100m breaststroke, she had the additional satisfaction of beating former BCS team-mate and silver medallist Jessie Foster, now with the Bath-based Aquae Sulis squad, by almost five seconds.

Also in Bristol, Tornadoes of South Dorset’s Jenny Scott set new county figures with a time of 30.64 in the 50m backstroke.

Another backstroke county record fell at Portsmouth, where Poole’s Emily Clarke, 17, recorded a time of 2:19.42 to slice over half-a-second off the mark set by Ferndown Otters’ Jessica Brown on international duty in Sweden in 1999.

The time ranks Clarke 14th in Britain.
