BIG-HITTING Will Fletch-er has blasted his way into Dorset’s cricketing record books – at the age of 11.

Will achieved his remarkable feat after registering the highest individual score – an astounding 139 not out – at the Dorset Cricket Centre.

The top talent earned his place in Hurn Bridge indoor batting history during a recent Dorset Indoor Cricket League Under-11s clash.

Playing for Broadstone, the youngster got stuck into Christchurch by accumulating the mammoth total in the space of 12 big-hitting overs.

Competing in the six-a-side clash, Broadstone looked in a spot of bother once Christchurch had reduced them to 38 for four.

But previously unbeaten Broadstone Middle School pupil Will, who has been playing cricket since the age of eight, then returned to the crease to take centre stage.

In a display of clean hitting that would have made the likes of Kevin Pietersen and Chris Gayle envious, he rocketed the total to 251 for five.

The Cherries youth footballer showcased his skills by taking a huge 105 runs from the final three overs of the innings to help set up a 161-run victory.

Will’s unbeaten 139 surpassed the previous Dorset Cricket Centre record of 127, set by Winton’s Howard Shearing in adult cricket.

Broadstone team manager David Brook told Echo Youth Sport: “Opening bat Will retired unbeaten on 25 but soon returned when Broadstone’s fifth wicket went down.

“Good initial support from Noah Leboutillier and the benefit of the ‘last man standing’ rule allowed Will to put Christchurch to the sword with a swashbuckling innings that took him to 139 not out – including a staggering 48 runs from the final over!

“With 251 to defend, Broadstone’s bowling line-up of Gabriel Winsor, Josh Brook, Freddie Pryce and Kai Harding were able to wrap up the shell-shocked Christchurch innings at 90 for six with overs to spare.

“The unlikely victory was enabled by a record-breaking display of controlled hitting from an extremely talented young cricketer.”

Sporting all-rounder Will, who recently broke his school record for the cricket ball throw, also plays cricket for his school and county.

He has also just been accepted on to the Dorset cricket junior development programme.
