FERNDOWN Otters breaststrokers Fran Hughes and Naomi Vides have been added to the England Schools team for the WISE international in Glasgow in March.

Both will swim the 100m and 200m breaststroke.

They join Bournemouth Dolphins Courtney Rowan and Amelia Maughan who, as reported last week, will swim the junior freestyle against Wales, Ireland and Scotland.

Hughes, 16, is a former national youth champion and last swam in the home nations international three or four years ago.

Fifteen-year-old Vides is a former age group champion.

The selections are based on results at the England schools championships at Crystal Palace in October.

n Honours were even for Poole SC and Christchurch and New Milton Seagulls after a closely-contested Dorset Novice League gala at Rossmore pool in Parkstone.

They ended the four-cornered contest with 114 points each with Bournemouth SC just seven points behind.

Poole’s results included 12 wins and six so-called “speeding tickets” – disqualifications for swimming faster than the designated cut-off times.

Individual winners included 10-year-olds Olivia Lewington in the 50m breaststroke, Isobel Yeatman in the 25m butterfly and Connor Forsyth in the boys’ 50m backstroke.

In the 11/u age group there were wins for Zhenyue Lim and Jennifer Ashton in the boys’ and girls’ 50m freestyle and a mixed freestyle relay team in which these two were joined by Finlay Spalding and Heather Buchanan.

The 12/u age group produced wins from Buchanan (50m freestyle) and Alisha KcKirdy (50m breaststroke).

In the 14/u age group winners were Emma Marjason (50m breaststroke) and Ben Porter (50m freestyle).

There was a second Poole relay win from the 9yrs mixed team of Harvey McKirdy, Toni-Jade Graham, Georga Harrison and Lewis Harding.

Harrison Penfold and Adam Selby were both double winners for Bournemouth.

Penfold won the 14/u 50m backstroke in 42.61 and 50m butterfly in 41.09.

Selby took the 11/u 50m breaststroke in 53.95 and the 10yrs 25m butterfly in 23.48.

Other individual winners were Charlotte Blomfield (12/u 50m fly 45.98), Max Remington (10yrs 50m freestyle 43.44), Arabella Drake (14/u 50m fly 41.06) and Megan Cocker (11/u 50m back 55.67).

Two Bournemouth swimmers acquired speeding tickets.
