POOLE'S Harriet Perfect toppled two of her own county records as swimmers from three Dorset clubs helped to christen Britain’s newest 50-metre pool.

Perfect, 15, was one of five Dorset medallists at the inaugural Wycombe Premier Meet with 11-year-old Amy Brown alone enjoying a five-medal spree for Swim Bournemouth.

Perfect followed up her senior and junior backstroke victories at last month’s Dorset championships with her first sub 65-second 100m backstroke in the brand new pool at High Wycombe, Bucks.

Her time of 1:04.97 not only won her the 15yrs gold medal but lowered her Dorset senior and junior records and made her the seventh-fastest 15-year-old backstroker in Britain.

Bournemouth Collegiate School’s (BCS) Kayla van der Merwe also struck gold in the 13yrs 50m breaststroke (35.40).

But Amy Brown was the star of the show in the younger age groups, walking away with two silver and three bronze medals against a field consisting almost entirely of 12-year-olds.

The multiple Dorset age group champion slashed several of her personal best times to win silver in the 200m breaststroke and 200m backstroke and bronze in the 50m backstroke, 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley (IM).

In the 200m events she knocked five, four and five seconds respectively off her breaststroke, backstroke and IM personal bests with times of 2:52.60, 2:33.91 and 2:33.87. She was also fourth in the 100m backstroke and sixth in the 50m breaststroke.

BCS’s Ella Chown added two silver medals to the Dorset tally in the 13yrs 50m and 100m butterfly (30.50 and 1:07.82).

Poole’s Emily Clarke, 18, another multiple county champion, won bronze in the 18 and over 800m freestyle in 9:03.01. She was fourth in the 400m freestyle and sixth in the 50m free.

In a meet that attracted several Olympic swimmers and many other internationals, Brown’s club-mate Abbie Manns also achieved two top-eight finishes, placing seventh and eighth respectively in the 14yrs 200m and 50m breaststroke.

BCS’s Finn Trehane came fourth in the 14yrs 100m butterfly, seventh in the 400m IM and eighth in the 50m breaststroke

Team-mate Lottie James was fourth in the 15yrs 50m breaststroke while fellow BCS swimmer Alex Bryant was sixth in the 13yrs 50m backstroke.

STRENGTH in depth proved the key for Bournemouth Collegiate School’s prep school as they won the top team title in the Poole Year 5 & 6 Schools gala at Rossmore.

The team from the former Uplands School site in Lower Parkstone won only one two of the 26 events but had enough depth to accumulate 212 points, beating Canford Heath by 20 with Broadstone just three points behind in third.
