RESURGENT Timo Lahti revealed how an engine donation from promoter Matt Ford had helped him find form for Pirates.

The Finland-born Swedish international stormed to a 13-point salvo in the convincing SGB Premiership victory over strugglers Leicester six days ago.

Bizarrely, the 25-year-old's biggest haul in the skull and crossbones preceded a drop to reserve with Paul Starke taking his place in the main body of the team.

And Lahti is in a positive frame of mind ahead of today's fixtures at home to Belle Vue (11am) and away to Rye House (7.30pm).

He told the Daily Echo: "I have a good engine from Matt now whereas before I had my Swedish and Polish engines which didn't quite work over here.

"We found a good set-up and winning is so much easier when you make the gate. It is so hard to win from behind.

"When you are winning races you get more confident and that's a big thing. If you keep losing, it's hard to bring your level back up."

Since he departed Eastbourne in 2014, former Elite League play-off finalist Lahti has not tackled two meetings in a day.

And a tough 12 hours will be made even more difficult by his lack of familiarity with the Rye House track.

Lahti said: "I haven't done a double-header in the past three years but I think it will be all right.

"I've never been to Rye House so I'm looking forward to it. I've heard it's small and slick, which I like.

"We've had two victories on the trot so, hopefully, we can keep it going."
