HANS Andersen says none of the Pirates septet have experienced problems with British speedway's yellow band tyres – except at Swindon.

The teams will renew their rivalry on Wimborne Road shale tomorrow (6pm), a fortnight after clashing over which rubber to use at Blunsdon.

Swindon wanted to use last year's red band tyre but Pirates' preference for yellow – the 2017 regulation tyre which Robins skipper Jason Doyle has been highly critical of – overrode that as the teams could not agree.

Visiting skipper Andersen subsequently suffered severe tyre degradation but the Dane insisted other tracks had not given the same troubles.

He told the Daily Echo: "We've not had many issues with the yellow tyre so far apart from at Swindon when the track was very hard and dry.

"It ripped the side off in one heat so I could only use one tyre twice. Normally, you can use one side of a tyre twice, sometimes even three times if you go in heat 15.

"Everywhere else we have ridden with the yellow tyre and none my team-mates have said they have had a problem using it, although I can see it being a problem when it gets hotter later in the summer.

"I think with some riders it plays a bigger part in their head whether the tyre is red or yellow."
