FOR most people, the idea of living with your boss is nothing short of a nightmare.

But Brady Kurtz is not most people.

Poole Pirates' winter recruit lodges with team manager Neil Middleditch in Sturminster Marshall and insists it is the perfect backdrop for his rookie year in the Elite League – as speedway is rarely discussed.

This despite the fact the 19-year-old is one of three riders based with Middleditch and wife Suzi, the others being Poole skipper Davey Watt and Plymouth charger Todd Kurtz, Brady's older brother.

Bartek Wieczorek, who spanners for new Pirates recruit Kurtz, completes the household and the latter says his Dorset base provides the ideal setting for relaxation away from his busy career.

Kurtz, who stayed with Middleditch while at Somerset Rebels last season, told the Daily Echo: "Middlo's is awesome and I really love living there. Him and Suzi are such good people and it's a family environment.

"Middlo is cool with everything. When you go home there is not too much talk about speedway and we try and live a normal lifestyle without too much pressure.

"Speedway is such a busy world that it becomes almost too much sometimes and you try and do anything you can to get away.

"Everything is solely focused on being at the track, in the van or at the workshop. Sometimes it's good to get as far away as possible.

"It's good to clear your head and when you have had a couple of bad meetings you can come back refreshed and ready to go again."

Kurtz predicted the support of countrymen Watt and Chris Holder would prove invaluable this season and said the trio's friendship off the track would aid his first campaign in the top flight of British speedway.

He added: "I really love living here. There are so many Aussies around and it's the closest thing to home, I guess.

"There is such an atmosphere and it's a home away from home.

"Having two older Australians here in Chris and Watty is going to be a massive thing for me. They are going to be looking out for me and trying to help as much as they can.

"Away from the track I am always hanging out round Chris's house as I'm good friends with his brother Jack and we're all just great mates."

Middleditch, who provided accommodation for ex-Pirates star Darcy Ward during his racing career, revealed Kurtz was more than a welcome guest in his home.

That said, the team boss admitted he had not been able to satisfy his sweet tooth as much of late given the dwindling supplies of biscuits since the teenager's arrival.

Middleditch said: "I'm a surrogate father to everybody. I have Todd and Davey living with me as well, so every night it's like feeding the 5,000 for Suzi.

"My house has always been buzzing with speedway riders and it is a good environment for Brady to be in. It's a family atmosphere and he is comfortable there.

"He does eat some biscuits, though, our biscuit barrel is forever empty! But as long as he keeps scoring points, I'll keep buying the biscuits!"

Kurtz hit double figures for the first time in Pirates colours in last week's 57-33 victory over Lakeside at Wimborne Road.

And Middleditch was delighted to see the youngster reach the milestone in only his fourth meeting for Poole.

He added: "Brady is a great young rider. He has a great mechanic in Bart, who was Chris's mechanic for a number of years, and has a good pit crew, which is very important.

"He is enjoying his racing at the moment and for a young man to score what he did in the home meeting against Lakeside, he has got to be very pleased with himself."
