HANS Andersen’s hopes of a Speedway Grand Prix return are back on track following crisis talks with the Danish Motor Union.

The Pirates star and 16 of his countrymen were furious that Michael Jepsen Jensen was given a wild card into the SGP qualifying quarter-finals, rather than earning the right on the shale.

Jepsen Jensen had elected to ride for Polish club Gorzow on the same night as the Danish qualifier in Esbjerg and had his wild card request approved by the Speedway Commission.

But that decision left Andersen and co seething and a war of words ensued with the DMU.

The entire field threatened to boycott the Esbjerg meeting and national boss Anders Secher quit over the row.

However, following a three-hour meeting between Andersen, former Poole star Bjarne Pedersen and representatives of the DMU and Speedway Commission, it was agreed that Jepsen Jensen’s wild card would be withdrawn.

The date of the qualifier, which will also determine Denmark’s representatives in the European Championship, has been switched to Tuesday, April 19 to allow Jepsen Jensen to take part.

DMU chairman Jørgen Bitsch said in a statement: “We are very satisfied with the solution after detailed discussion of various options.”

Denmark’s wild card rules are set to be further discussed before next season.
