KYLE Newman insists there is no time to play the blame game over the planned closure of Plymouth Devils while there remains hope of a rescue package.

The Poole-born ace had been set to double up with hometown club Pirates and the Premier League outfit for a third straight season until Plymouth’s promotion announced on Tuesday it would be closing the doors with immediate effect.

Since then, fans and Devils team boss Lee Trigger have started work on keeping the Devon club open and despite feeling let down, the 24-year-old Poole reserve is keen to focus on the future.

Plymouth captain Newman told the Daily Echo: “The club probably should have looked into it a bit more before the season started but that has gone now, we cannot sit and dwell on what should or should not have been done.

“Now it is about riders, fans and management joining together to try to find a way forward. The best-case scenario is enough funds being found but we will only do that if everyone is together.

“It is important to show a united front.”

But Newman, who is also part of Polish second-tier club Polonia Pila's squad, admits he cannot afford to be left in limbo for too long.

"It is all up in the air, none of us know what's going on," he added. "I think a few people are quite keen to try to save it so we will give it a week or two.

"As riders, we cannot give it too long. If other spots become available, it gives you a very tough decision to make and the management and promotion at Plymouth know that.

"Everybody, including the riders, is trying to find ways to raise money and cut costs. From what we have been told, every option is open at the moment in an effort to keep it going for the rest of this year."
