Former Pirates reserve Lee Smart has come out of retirement and has joined the Isle of Wight.

Smart, who quit the sport just days after being shown the door by Poole in May 2014, has become the final signing for the re-formed Smallbrook club.

The 27-year-old was signed by Pirates as a result of the Elite League’s inaugural draft but was axed after mustering just eight points from 15 rides.

Smart, who last appeared in the National League for Devon in 2014, said: “Having taken a year out, I have been in discussions with the Isle of Wight for a couple of weeks and am really excited to become a Warrior in 2016.

“It looks as if we will be in for a good season on track too as the management have done a great job in putting a strong looking team together in such a short space of time after being accepted in to the league on December 2.

“It is good that I know most of the team already, so it all bodes well to have a great team spirit in the Warriors camp and I cannot wait to get started.”
