FORMER Pirates star Mark Lemon could bring down the curtain on a 25-year riding career with a farewell meeting at Wimborne Road.

The Belle Vue boss, who rode in Poole colours for five seasons in the nineties and noughties, hung up his kevlars at the end of last year.

And while the Victorian held a farewell meeting Down Under in January, he remained keen to bid a formal goodbye to British speedway, with the end of this season potentially providing a free date.

Pirates promoter Matt Ford revealed that Lemon, who was contracted to Poole for his entire career, would be welcome to stage his last hurrah in Dorset, providing fixtures permitted.

Ford told the Daily Echo: “Lemo is due a farewell meeting.

“While he only rode a few matches for me, he was always easy to deal with and I hold him in high regard – I think he’s a good guy.

“Depending on fixtures and how it pans out, it could be that our season is over by the end of September.

“After that, a lot of the riders aren’t leaving for Australia for a couple of weeks and if there is nothing going on, I don’t mind if he has a farewell here.

“I like Lemo and if he feels he could get a crowd as good as he could elsewhere or better, then it wouldn’t be a problem for me to open Wimborne Road’s doors for him.”

Lemon revealed that Poole had always been his number one choice of venue given his affinity with the club.

He said: “I still feel really close to Poole and it would be nice to have one last hurrah over here.

“I have an affection for a lot of clubs as I have travelled around a lot but Wimborne Road was first and foremost in my mind for this meeting.”
