MACIEJ Janowski has been awarded his first Speedway Grand Prix victory after topping the score charts at a weather-hit meeting in Daugavpils, Latvia.

The Poole Pirates captain led the way with 12 points from five rides at the Lokomotiv Stadium before rain prevented the semi-finals and final taking place.

That meant 23-year-old Janowski, currently competing in his first full GP series, claimed the crown with a haul that moved him back into the top eight.

Janowski told speedwaygp.com: "It was a good night for us, maybe a little bit hard to begin with but then we found a good set up. I got some good points, my first win and hopefully not my last one."

Pirates team-mate Chris Holder claimed three race wins and was fourth on the night before the action was brought to an abrupt halt.
