JUBILANT first-team manager Dan Draper revealed how the exuberance of youth had played a key role in Wimborne's majestic title triumph.

The Minstermen booked their spot in South West One East next season with a 74-7 hammering of Walcot at Leigh Park, their 13th win on the bounce.

With away clashes against Marlborough and Blandford to come, Wimborne are safe in the knowledge their first Southern Counties South title since 2010 is in the bag.

And Draper said Wimborne's youthful contingent had more than played their part in securing league glory.

He told the Daily Echo: "We've been lucky that we've had a number of young players, plus some experienced guys, arrive at first-team level at the same time.

"We've come against some ageing sides this year, especially in the pack, but the majority of our side is in its 20s, which has helped us enormously.

"There has been no secret to our success, just good players who believe in the message from the coaching and management team.

"We've had a new head coach come in (Giles Hewson), supported by Matt Lishman, Dave Oddie and Charlie Morgan.

"Their message has been simple from the start – play fast, structured rugby – and that has allowed our young, flair players to express themselves.

"Our captain, Dec Foley, has marshalled the guys and been a leader on the pitch.

"We all felt this season would go down to the final matches but victories against our closest rivals late in the season showed the quality we have, not just in the first team but across the club.

"We deserve to be points clear on the strength of our play."

Second-placed Swanage & Wareham strolled to the Southern Counties title in 2014-15 before finishing rock bottom of South West One the following campaign, leaving Draper in no doubt as to the task in hand.

He said: "I think Swans showed last season the challenge ahead. Everyone from the chairman down has been mindful of that challenge for a number of weeks now.

"We need to maintain the young group we have and with a few additions we hope to, at the very least, maintain our league status."

Wimborne began their 12-try rout when Tom Moysey's chip was gathered by Anthony Fitch and he touched down out wide.

Doug Robertson increased the lead but Walcot immediately hit back following a series of missed tackles.

From then on, it was all Wimborne. Tyler Adams powered over for his second score in as many home matches and Moysey twice finished off telling moves.

Eighteen points ahead at the break, the Minsterman did not let up following the restart and Moysey completed his hat-trick.

Robertson and Fitch grabbed their second tries and Ollie Hamer also got in on the act with two scores.

The forwards were not to be outdone and Ed Carter and Ryan Sturney also crossed the whitewash in an emphatic victory.
