BOURNEMOUTH’S Hamish Renwick scored a superb try as Dorset & Wilts warmed up for the start of next month’s RFU Under-20 Championship with a 25-19 win over Hampshire in a friendly at Chapel Gate.
Skipper Renwick, who attends Hartbury University, was one of five players with Lions connections in the Twin Counties line-up and opened the scoring in the 16th minute.
His stunning touchdown was added to by Sherborne’s Rhodri Hopkins, with Royal Wootton Bassett’s Connor Tomley converting both tries as Dorset & Wilts raced into a 14-0 lead.
Brunel University’s Matt Goddard crashed over to register Dorset & Wilts’s third try before Charlie Waite went over for Hampshire to reduce the arrears to 19-5 at the break.
Although Hampshire made further inroads by scoring another converted try, two penalties from Hopkins saw the Twin Counties establish a 25-12 lead. Seb Harold’s try, converted by Eddie Lewis, completed the scoring for the visitors.
Bournemouth's Sam Bailey and Wimborne trio Max Clark, Harry Bazalgette and Sam Vivian all played their part for Dorset & Wilts who visit Somerset in their RFU Championship opener on February 5.
