OAKMEADIANS under-13s won the county title for the third straight season as they brushed aside Dorchester with a dominant display.

The youngsters, already champions at under-11 and under-12 level, triumphed 24-0 in the Dorset Cup final at Wimborne's Leigh Park headquarters.

Although Dorchester exerted early pressure, an excellent break from their own 22 saw Oaks centres Luke Williams and Isaac Fitzgerald-Harvey charge into the opposition half.

Unfortunately, the ensuing ruck saw Fitzgerald-Harvey leave the field due to an injury but despite this early loss, Oakmeadians grew in confidence.

A well-worked move from a scrum saw the ball shifted one way and then the other, with good support work resulting in left wing Ben Slingsbury setting up Benjamin Wright to open Oaks' account.

The Meyrick Park side were in control at the breakdown but the first half became stop-start with a string of penalties stopping the game's flow.

However, Oaks soon increased their lead. Having earned good field position, sustained support play and quick ball allowed full-back Josh Wickens to burst into the three-quarter line and score under the posts.

The conversion was added by Charlie Manson and the lead was 12-0 at the interval.

Joe Williams's side started the second period as they had finished the first, camped in Dorchester's 22, and several try-scoring opportunities were passed up.

But soon the pressure told when Joe Jackson powered over and Manson added the conversion.

Dorchester attempted to fight back but ferocious tackling prevented them from getting close to their maiden score.

And Wickens put the polish on victory in the closing moments when he grabbed his second try of the game.

Oaks head coach Williams said: "The team of coaches are delighted that we have been successful in retaining our position as the strongest in our age group in the county.

"We are fortunate to have an extended squad and all of our players have contributed to this season’s success. A huge well done to all of the boys.

“I would like to thank Dorchester for a spirited performance in the final, as well as our sponsors, Parsons & Joyce, and all the parents that support the team.”
