The next few months are about building towards the Olympics – even if results in the meantime might suffer.

We are training with various groups out here in Cadiz. One of the American teams has been racing against us and we are also lucky to be getting some top tips from Ian Williams, Britain’s men’s Match Racing world champion.

We are in a three-week block of quite intensive work now. There is a lot to be done.

Some of the main aspects of this training will centre on our tactics and match racing.

Our class is so new and it is the first time it has been in the Olympics, so there are a lot of things happening and people are moving on so fast.

Although we have got to a level, because we have been selected early it gives us time to take apart some of the things we do and see if we can improve on them.

Unlike some of the other nations, where they maybe haven’t been selected yet and are trying to fine-tune so they can win their trials, we don’t need to perform until the Olympics. It could be that our performances in the next couple of World Cup regattas might not be as good and it might be detrimental to winning those events.

But, ultimately, it is all about the Olympics, so it is worth losing a little bit now to try to find the next level and build something better for the summer.
