PARKSTONE Golf Club duo Martyn Thompson and Darren Budd will begin their quest to land the Lombard Trophy at Gleneagles tomorrow.
Poole-based train driver Budd, who plays off a handicap of seven, makes tracks for the prestigious Scottish venue where he will partner professional Thompson – a past winner and finalist – against 15 other clubs in the PGA National Pro-Am Championship.
The grand final, which carries a first prize of £12,000 for the winning pro, is being staged today and tomorrow over 36 holes on the PGA Centenary Course – host to next year’s Ryder Cup.
Poole-based Budd, 33, who plays off a handicap of seven, said: “I take the game very seriously and cannot wait for the Gleneagles final. I have been working with my coach Dave Cooper from Canford Magna and I think I will be prepared.”
Thompson, who won the event 10 years ago and finished third in last year’s final, said: “I have never played Gleneagles before so I can’t wait for that, not just to see the course but the hotel as well. It should be a great few days.”
