DORSET golfing sensation Georgia Hall this afternoon claimed the biggest title of her fledgling career when she was crowned Ladies British Open Amateur champion in Wales.

The Remedy Oak 17-year-old, already the British girls’ champion, is believed to have become the first female amateur golfer in history to hold both prestigious titles at once – and she won the senior crown in real style during a windswept final at Llanelli’s Machynys Golf Club.

Hall, who plans to turn professional later this year, plundered a first career hole in one at the 154-yard 17th to move one up on Spain’s Luna Sobron going down the last.

And after both players made par to halve the 18th, Hall lifted the trophy that had evaded her last year when she bowed out at the semi-final stage.

The European number one said: “I’m so happy I can hardly speak. To get my first ever hole in one and win the British championship is like a dream come true.

“I was behind almost all the way round in just about the strongest wind I have ever played in, but I never gave up. I knew I had to be patient and wait for things to turn my way and they did.”

Hall was two down after 11 holes against highly-rated Sobron, before winning the 13th and squaring the match at the 16th.

The world number seven had earlier won her semi-final against Spain’s Noemi Jimenez after a four under par round saw her claim a 3&1 triumph.
