BOSS Matty Holmes believes Wimborne Town’s poor record against “bogey team” Didcot will not have an impact on tomorrow's season-defining battle.

Magpies go into their crucial Southern League West play-off semi-final against the Railwaymen having lost both league fixtures with them this season.

Diddy overcame Holmes’s charges 4-2 at Loop Meadow in August before completing a league double with a 1-0 win at Cuthbury in December.

But with Magpies having home advantage and expecting a bumper crowd for the end-of-season spectacle (7.45pm), Holmes is keen for his talented squad to express themselves.

He told the Daily Echo: “Everything rides on one game and we just have to make sure we stay calm and stick to what we want to do.

“The boys are used to playing high-pressure games. They will take things on the chin and just get on with it.

“That’s what I am looking forward to, seeing them thrive in the environment and showcasing what good players they are.”

He added: “Didcot are our bogey team, they have beaten us twice this season.

“They have some really good footballers and the shape they play is effective for them. I thought we were unlucky in periods of the games we lost against them.

“They may change things up like we do but I will try to do some homework and prepare the boys.”

Magpies exceeded all expectations to secure third spot in the league, scoring 104 goals and chalking up a club-record 77 points.

“This has been a little more fast-tracked than I expected but you will definitely take it while it’s there and enjoy it along the way,” added the Cuthbury boss.

“Hopefully, it doesn’t end on Wednesday, we want to carry on and try to get into the final. If it doesn’t happen, we have had a great season and nobody can take that away from us. We have been the third-best team in the division all season.”

Victory for Magpies would see them host either Evesham United or Swindon Supermarine in the final on Monday (3pm).
