WIMBORNE manager Matty Holmes called for his players to “buck up their ideas” or risk a change of squad personnel.

Magpies have lost three of their past four games in all competitions, including their past two league fixtures.

They sit 11th in Southern League West with six points garnered from their opening five league games.

And the Cuthbury boss insisted that had it not been for “individual errors”, Magpies would be in a much healthier position.

He told the Daily Echo: “Generally, as a team, we are defending quite well.

“It’s just the individual errors that are costing us at the moment.

“We have dropped five or six points of our own doing.

“We have not been played off the park or beaten when you can say the other team really deserved it.

“We should have had many more points than we have but we haven’t and these boys have to seriously learn quickly.

“We are giving them opportunities and we are sticking with them but, at some stage, as a manager, if they don’t learn and they don’t take it on board, then I have to look to change things personnel-wise.

“We want to stick with the boys because they know the way we want to play but they have to seriously buck up their ideas.

“If they don’t then we will have to look to move things around.”

Wimborne face a difficult home clash against Bristol Manor Farm tomorrow (3pm).

Having stormed to the Western League Premier Division title last season, the promoted visitors are second in the league, having claimed 10 points from their opening four games.

“This league is ruthless, it’s harder than last season,” added Holmes, who guided Magpies to 11th in his first campaign.

“You have lost Hereford but the teams that have come in, like Bristol Manor Farm, have invested really well and it is going to be a tough season.

“They are building a head of steam and are trying to do something. They are already second in the league and it will be tough for us.

“If we don’t start picking up the points we should, we could get dragged down the bottom and the season would fizzle out.”

Holmes could be boosted by the return of influential defender Scott Arnold, who picked up an ankle injury in pre-season following his recovery from a hip operation.

“He will be in contention,” added Holmes. “Getting Arnie back, a player who has huge experience, might just help the young full-backs and give them a bit of guidance.

“He has not played for a long time but his communication is vital.”

Striker Toby Holmes was set to have an X-ray on the foot injury he sustained at Winchester and is again a doubt, while new loan signing Luke Burbidge from Poole is expected to feature.
