BOSS Matty Holmes was happy to see Wimborne Town keep up their impressive scoring record with a 4-2 win over Yate Town at Cuthbury.

Magpies have scored nine times in their opening three Southern South & West fixtures.

The hosts raced into a 3-0 lead with a double coming from striker Toby Holmes after Jack Lovell’s classy strike found the net for the opener.

Wimborne were reduced to 10 men on 73 minutes however, Lee Francis was shown a second yellow card for a foul – his first booking came for simulation.

But Ben Mogg bundled the ball home for Wimborne to make it 4-0 and wrap the game up.

Yate were not done there however and they scored twice late on. Brad Norris converted from the spot before Eugene Keary pulled another consolation goal back in stoppage time.

Manager Holmes told the Daily Echo: “We are creating chances galore at the minute, it’s brilliant. It was just a shame we couldn’t keep that clean sheet.

“Our challenge now is to try and keep clean sheets because we know we have got some players who are a force in this league going forward.”

Wimborne, who are currently fourth in the league table, make the trip to face Winchester City today (3pm).

Dan Cann is struggling with a hamstring injury but James Stokoe could return.
