AMBITIOUS Swanage Town & Herston have applied to join the Sydenhams Wessex League after securing a new lease on their Day’s Park headquarters.

The club recently announced that agreement had been reached with Swanage Town Council for a 100-year lease on the site.

A statement on Swans’ website described it as a “momentous occasion for everyone at the club”.

They also added their thanks to mayor Steve Poultney, town clerk Martin Ayres and all the Swanage councillors for their “confidence in us and their help in obtaining this lease”.

The club also highlighted the support of Bob Foster from Swanage and Purbeck Development Trust who, their statement said, had been “instrumental in the process and we owe a lot to in his advisory role to the committee at the club”.

On the back of obtaining the lease, Swans are hoping to gain promotion from the Dorset Premier League to Division One of the Wessex League.

Club secretary Mari Watson informed the committee that their application had been submitted to the Football Association.

Day’s Park would need to pass ground-grading criteria for step six and Swans would need to finish in the top three of the DPL, subject to FA ratification.

Swans, currently third in DPL, had two previous spells in the Wessex League and finished as runners-up in 1991.
