BOSS Matty Holmes admits his Wimborne Town players are “buzzing” to be second in the league standings – and says he feels the same.
With most teams six games into the season, only Hereford have a better points return than Magpies in Southern League Division One South & West.
Holmes, whose team travel to Slimbridge tomorrow, said: “Footballers can sometimes go into comfort zones but they are buzzing about where they are. I don’t think they have been in this position for a while but it’s early days.
“I’m delighted to be second given the small amount of players we’ve had available. The players have shown real focus and worked hard for each other.
“If you have players who are enjoying their football, they will put a shift in and that’s half the battle. Hopefully, soon we will get some players back.”
Magpies: O’Flaherty, Penny, Hester, Arnold, S Davidson, Maybury, Stokoe, L Holmes, T Holmes, J Davidson, Kellaway, Leonard, Cooper, O’Sullivan, Harvey, Benfield.
Martin Smith and Ryan Kelly scored for Verwood Town in their 2-2 draw with Amesbury Town in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.
Brockenhurst won 4-1 at Weymouth reserves in the Wessex League Cup first round thanks to Mark Barker (3) and Matt Casey.
