BOSS Simon Browne rued a lack of cutting edge as Wimborne Town succumbed to a 3-1 defeat at North Leigh on Wednesday.

Having soaked up a lot of pressure in a scoreless first half, Magpies conceded within a minute of the restart when Callum McNish rifled into the bottom corner.

Jamie Cook made it two with a far-post header on 64 minutes but Browne’s men halved the deficit when Sam Davidson’s diving header found the net following an error by home keeper James Foster.

The visitors surged forward and their cause was boosted by Matt Woodley’s dismissal for a second yellow card with 12 minutes to go but Cook’s second late on killed the contest.

Browne told the Daily Echo: “It was really frustrating because I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves. Had our finishing been a little better, we might have gained all three points.

“We more than matched a good North Leigh side for large parts of the game but we didn’t have the bit of quality or composure in front of goal that would have given us the win.

“Ultimately, that was why we lost the game.”
