TOM Killick insists Poole Town cannot focus on points targets despite being the only team to know what is required to win the Southern League.

With second-placed Redditch United still the subject of a potential three-point penalty for fielding two suspended players, all of the other contenders are currently affected.

But after back-to-back victories over Weymouth and Chesham, Poole know 13 points from their final six matches would bring the crown to Tatnam.

Should Redditch lose their points, that target would come down to 12 with Leamington still able to reach 88 points.

But while boss Killick acknowledged the advantage, he urged his troops not to fall into the trap of looking further than tonight's trip to Paulton (7.45).

Killick told the Daily Echo: "Everything changed in the space of two matches but if we don’t do well in our next two, it could all shift back again. If we drop points, it would probably not be in our own hands.

"The lads did well to win our past two games without playing to their full potential. We have really battled so I am hoping we are in a good frame of mind.

"We are doing quite well in terms of fitness and availability, we are pretty much at full strength and there is a bit of confidence about us.

"We just need to avoid getting ahead of ourselves and focus on Paulton. They will be a tricky proposition on their own pitch.

"By all accounts, they were unlucky to lose to an in-form Frome side and then drew with Dorchester so we just have to deal with this game before thinking about anything else."

Injury-ravaged Richard Gillespie has an outside chance of being ready for the trip to Bristol but has more hope of featuring at Hitchin on Saturday.

Killick added: "He is very close and at this stage of the season, that could be quite fortunate for us.

"Fingers crossed, we will have him ready for the run in. I do think he could be key."

Meanwhile, Killick played down comments made by Redditch counterpart Liam McDonald in which he claimed other club's see United as a threat.

"I am mindful of any team that’s in contention, you have to be," said Killick. "Redditch are one of those sides and they are a factor in it all, the same as four or five other clubs.

"I know it is boring but we have 18 points still at stake and when there is that much to play for, there will always be a host of possible outcomes.

"I have looked at the league table and it is difficult, you don’t know exactly how to read it but whatever happens, there is still an awful lot to play for."
