POPPIES earned a creditable 0-0 draw with Sydenhams Wessex Premier rivals Team Solent last night – despite playing more than an hour with 10 men.

Ken Vaughan’s side had goalkeeper Eliot Broome sent off midway through the first half at Victoria Park after he had handled outside his area.

The stopper received a straight red card after he had raced off his line and out of his 18-yard box to block a goalbound effort from Team Solent striker Oluwatori Adekunle.

Substitute Kenny Vaughan came off the bench to replace Broome and, although the visitors hit the crossbar, Poppies defended resolutely to earn a valuable point.

Lymington Town were denied at the death and forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at Cowes Sports.

Although Zac Mouland opened the scoring for the visitors at Westwood Park, the Yachtsmen levelled in the closing stages through Jordan Browne.

New-look New Milton were also thwarted late on as Downton netted a late equaliser to force a 2-2 draw in Wessex One.

Goals from new signing Shane Sheridan and Dom Falco had appeared to put the Linnets on course for victory at Wick Lane before Ben Smith scored three minutes from time to put a spoke through their victory hopes.
