ALAN Lay said goodbye to Swanage Town & Herston after this afternoon's 4-0 home defeat to Balti Sports and immediately took on the vacant manager's position at Verwood Town.

Lay, who also runs Dorset's under-16 side, steps up two divisions by succeeding another ex-Dorset Premier League boss Carl Poore.

Having taken over in the summer of 2013, Lay led the Swans to seventh in the DPL, their highest finish for four years but slipped to 11th last season.

He will take coaches Brian Churchill and Ben Sullivan with him to Potterne Park where incumbent Gavin Reeves will also stay on.

Matt Groves, player/assistant manager to Poore and caretaker boss after his departure, is likely to be invited to stay on in a playing capacity.

News of Lay's imminent departure was broken this afternoon by the Daily Echo on Twitter.
