HAMWORTHY United boss Shane Traynor reckons he has the perfect platform from which to build having retained six of his senior players.

Captain David Legg, Jason Collins, Dan Smith, Stefan Penny, Kane Daysh and Jack Satterley have all agreed to stay at the County Ground.

Under Traynor, the Hammers claimed 27 points from their final 15 matches to secure a top-10 finish in the Sydenhams Wessex League last season.

Sam Davidson is set to switch from New Milton and Traynor revealed he had persuaded three unnamed players with Southern League experience to join the club for pre-season training.

Traynor, who stepped up from managing the reserves when predecessor Stewart Kearn resigned in January, told the Daily Echo: “We had a good run after Jeff Taylor (assistant) and I took over and wanted to keep as many of the players as we could.

“Thankfully, it looks like we have done that with everyone who played a part towards the end of the season agreeing to re-sign.

“Sam Davidson is very talented with loads of potential and I would expect him to go on and play even higher. We also have a very good under-18 team with three or four players that could easily make the step up."

“There was a real buzz about the place last season and the players can’t wait to get started again.”

Meanwhile, vice-chairman Bruce Scammell expects United’s new chairman to emerge from the club’s existing committee.

Current incumbent Mark Bartlett is standing down due to increased work commitments this summer and while right-hand man Scammell is willing to temporarily take the role, he reckons it will not be necessary.

Scammell told the Daily Echo: “We have our AGM coming up on Monday, June 22 and the club hopes to make an announcement shortly after that.

“I have been proposed as vice-chairman again and it looks like I will be helping a candidate from within.”
