TEN-man Hamworthy Recreation held on to seal the Dorset Premier League title with a 2-1 win over Weymouth reserves.

Max Wilcock opened the scoring but Sam Purdy’s dismissal 11 minutes before the break put the visitors up against it.

However, Dom Falco doubled the lead after the interval and although Weymouth pulled one back, it was not enough.

Rec boss Keith Whatling said: “This performance epitomised our season - hard work, character and passion with some great spells of football.

“I’m very proud to be part of a fantastic bunch of lads and a massive thanks to my assistant Matt Morris and coach Mike Glavin, who have proved invaluable.”

Weymouth nearly took the lead early on when a free-kick rattled the post, only for Wilcock to drill an angled opener.

It should have been two but Purdy blazed wide having been set up by Joe Kittle.

The hosts had a couple of chances before Purdy was ordered off and Rec keeper Andy Knights made a vital save before half-time.

Moments after the resumption, Falco latched on to a through ball from Phil Ross and fired home to make it 2-0.

Weymouth then moved back within a single goal but that was the end of the scoring.
