BOSS Tom Killick urged supporters to “look at the season as a whole” after Southern Premier title-chasers Poole Town had extended to four league matches their winless run.

Dolphins drew 2-2 with Hitchin at Tatnam yesterday but still closed to four points the gap on table-toppers Corby courtesy of the Steelmen’s 2-1 defeat at fellow promotion hopefuls Truro.

While Killick was disappointed not to capitalise further on the result at Treyew Road, he insisted there was no room for negativity in the Dolphins camp.

The manager told the Daily Echo: “I don’t think we played well but what we have to do is take some confidence from the fact that we are now in a better position in the league, although people may feel I’m clutching at straws.

“I expected the Truro result as they are a much-improved side and if we beat Banbury and win at Chesham then suddenly we could be in a very good position.

“I know people don’t want to hear this but if we had lost the first three games of the season and then got ourselves in this position, everyone would say how well we had done. You have got to look at the season as a whole.

“It’s the worst run of results we’ve had for as long as I can remember and it’s hard for me and the players to deal with.

“I understand some of the supporters’ frustrations but we still have the opportunity to turn it round.

“There’s no point sulking and feeling sorry for ourselves because we haven’t really got time for that and there is still everything to play for.

“We have to look forward to Banbury on Tuesday and try and come out all guns blazing.”

Reflecting on his team’s performance, Killick added: “I thought we started off in a nervous and tentative fashion.

“Hitchin scored and with our confidence being so fragile, we didn’t recover very well.

“Suddenly, we got our goal and looked a lot brighter, and at halftime I was so confident that it would be the boost we needed.

“I thought we could come out with some intensity and put them under pressure and it didn’t really happen.

“Even when we got the second goal, we weren’t playing as I had hoped we would. Then we relinquished the initiative.

"We had a brilliant platform at half-time and I thought we were found wanting so that frustrated me.”
