HAMWORTHY United manager Shane Traynor is confident his new-look side will not take their foot off the gas in their final three games – despite having little to play for.

The Hammers have rattled in seven without reply in their past two Sydenhams Wessex League matches ahead of tomorrow's home clash with relegation-haunted Christchurch (3pm).

Under Traynor, United's much-changed squad has accumulated an impressive 23 points from 12 matches and with another struggler, Fareham Town, to play, the former reserve-team boss is keen to finish with a flourish.

Traynor told the Daily Echo: "We're playing well at the moment and I put that down to the confidence we have in the players.

"The lads we have promoted from the reserves know the system we like to play which makes the jump that bit easier for them.

"Happiness is key as well. You get the best out of players, particularly the young ones, when they are happy and if we can give them a positive vibe that often reflects on the pitch."

Meanwhile, Traynor has targeted a top-eight finish for his side next season.

"I want to try and keep together the nucleus of the side for next season, there is no two ways about that," he added. "We are looking at the possibility of one or two additions but in general, we feel the talent is there.

"If we could finish in or around the top eight, I would be happy. At the minute, it is still a learning process with the players nailing down how we want to play but hopefully we can carry forward some momentum."

Priory go into the clash with a three-point advantage and better goal difference over second-bottom Totton & Eling, who travel to second-placed Winchester City this weekend. Fareham do not play.
