LYMINGTON Town extended to six matches their winning streak in the Sydenhams Wessex League with a scrappy 2-0 victory at relegation-haunted Fareham.

Substitute Jordan Rose headed home from a corner during the second half at Cams Alders with Ollie Hanger’s volley securing maximum points late on.

The success saw Lymo climb to fifth place in the Premier Division.

Jesse Gould put the visitors in front after 56 minutes with a brace from dual-registered Poole Town forward Dan Munday settling the verdict in the final 20 minutes.

Poppies have now lost five games in a row and with a whopping 28 goals shipped in the process.

Ken Vaughan’s men sit fourth bottom of the table with an eight-point cushion over second-bottom Fareham.

  • VERWOOD Town succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at title-chasers Winchester City.

Warren Bentley gave City the lead with a well-controlled volley and former Christchurch defender Jamie Thoroughgood made sure of the points by scrambling home Micky Hubbard’s corner.

The result sees Carl Poore’s Potters drop to 15th in the table.

  • HAMWORTHY United conceded a penalty and saw one of their own saved in a 2-0 defeat at Andover Town.

Brad Benson netted from 12 yards for the hosts after Danny Urry had been fouled on 51 minutes.

Ike Robertson then bagged a second on 67 minutes and salt was rubbed into the Hammers’ wounds when Town keeper Michael Weatherall saved Kane Daysh’s late spot-kick.

United boss Shane Traynor said: “It was a fairly even game but just one of those days where Andover took their chances and we didn’t.”

The result saw Andover leapfrog Hamworthy into 10th spot.
