CHAIRMAN Mark Bartlett says Hamworthy United have been forced to delay naming a new boss due to the level of interest in the position.

Hammers had planned to unveil a successor to Stewart Kearn ahead of tomorrow’s visit of Sydenhams Wessex Premier high-fliers Whitchurch United to the County Ground (3pm).

But with no fewer than nine candidates having applied, Bartlett has decided to extend the interview process and anticipates making an announcement regarding the appointment at the end of next week.

He told the Daily Echo: “We have been very encouraged by the quality of the applicants.

“They come from varying levels and it is great to be a club which people want to come to and see has a future.”

Former Hammers boss Phil Simkin is one of the applicants, as is reserve team manager Shane Traynor who has been handed the reins on a caretaker basis.

Bartlett said he did not wish to reveal the identity of the other seven because they were currently in positions elsewhere.

He added: “I don’t want to create any problems for them because all they are trying to do is better themselves.”

Also in Wessex Premier, Christchurch will be hoping to maintain their recent revival when they host Bemerton, Verwood entertain Blackfield & Langley, Lymington welcome Newport and Poppies head to Follands.

In Wessex One, New Milton Town host Laverstock & Ford, while Ringwood Town entertain Fleet Spurs.
