MANAGER Tom Killick hopes the addition of teenage Cherries striker Joe Quigley will prove to be a “good fit” for Poole Town.

Quigley yesterday joined the Dolphins on a youth loan and is in line to make his debut in tonight’s Southern League Cup clash against Sholing at Tatnam (7.45pm).

A second-year scholar at Dean Court, Quigley has netted nine times for Cherries this season, his exploits helping them climb to the top of the south west section of the Football League Youth Alliance.

The 18-year-old is the latest graduate of the Priestlands production line, the Lymington-based school whose old boys include Paul Rideout, Russell Perrett, Sam Vokes and Josh McQuoid.

Killick told the Daily Echo: “It is no secret we have been looking to strengthen our striking options for some time. In normal circumstances, perhaps I wouldn’t have been looking to take someone as inexperienced and young but Joe is a powerful lad. There is no doubting his ability and he is physically strong.

“He is very proficient technically and I am excited to have him and think he can do well for us. I think he will be a good fit and it will benefit both parties because he probably hasn’t played a lot of men’s football and we desperately need someone who can occupy defenders and, hopefully, score some goals.

“He won’t have any issues dealing with our level technically but he may find it more physical and aggressive than what he is used to. But that is part of the reason Bournemouth think it will be good for his development because he needs to come up against that sort of thing at some point and be able to deal with it.

“Everyone goes into it with their eyes open. Bournemouth know the level we are at and what it is all about and I am really pleased to have him. I know they think highly of him and feel he can progress well. He has been doing well in the youth team and this is probably a new and different challenge for him.”

Quigley, who has signed initially for a month, is expected to start when Poole entertain Sholing in the third round of a competition Killick is keen to go all the way in.

Dolphins progressed thanks to wins over Wimborne and AFC Totton, while the Boatmen, who compete in Division One South & West, knocked out Bashley and Weymouth.

Injured duo Richard Gillespie and Michael Walker are likely to sit out, while Keith Emmerson is unavailable and Charlie Davis cup-tied.

Luke Roberts could feature after being laid low with a bug but the clash will come too soon for Harrison Gilkes who has an outside chance of being in contention for Saturday’s trip to Biggleswade.
