DAN Saul plundered a four-timer as Poppies ended Lymington’s impressive unbeaten run in Sydenhams Wessex Premier thanks to an emphatic 5-1 win at the Sports Ground.

In-form Lymington, bidding to make it nine league games without defeat, were rocked when Saul added to Sam Pekun’s opener as the visitors raced into a 2-0 lead after 22 minutes.

And although James Davis halved the arrears for the hosts, Saul restored Poppies’ two-goal cushion when he netted his second and their third seven minutes before half-time.

Poppies were reduced to 10 men when Johnathan Watt saw red after 70 minutes but made light of the numerical disadvantage as Saul completed his hat-trick 14 minutes from time.

Having become the first Poppies player to bag a league hat-trick for 462 days, Saul completed the scoring in the 82nd minute.

Goals from Russell Cook and Josh Rose earned Hamworthy United a 2-0 victory over last season’s runners-up Alresford Town at Arlebury Park.

It was Hammers’ first win in five and followed narrow defeats at the hands of leaders Moneyfields and high-flying Winchester City together with a draw with bottom-placed Totton & Eling.

Christchurch were forced to play the final 30 minutes of their 2-2 draw with Totton & Eling with 10 men following the dismissal of Matt Vining.

Priory’s goals came from Dan Haysom and an own goal.

Graham Mankin and Jack Slade were on target in Bemerton Heath’s 2-0 win at Verwood, while Ringwood went down 1-0 at United Services Portsmouth in Wessex One.
