TROUBLED Bashley have hit out at “inaccurate media coverage” – after a club official unwittingly gave out the wrong information to the Daily Echo.

The Southern League outfit was last week thrown into further disarray when Dominic Cunliffe resigned as manager after just 17 days in charge.

Cunliffe, who said his decision had been down to a “genuine personal issue”, became the fourth man to vacate the Bash dugout in 64 days with Andy Darnton, Graham Speechley-Price and interim boss Martin Spiers also having relinquished the reins.

Following Cunliffe’s exit, club secretary Mike Cranidge told the Echo that ex-boss Speechley-Price – husband of chairperson Angela Speechley-Price – would be stepping into the breach for yesterday’s trip to Merthyr Town with Paul Morris staying on to assist.

The subsequent article, which appeared on the Echo website on Thursday, was published - in full - as a news story on Bashley’s official club website. However, on Friday, the club issued a statement in an attempt to clarify the managerial situation.

It read: “Due to the recent release of inaccurate media coverage concerning the running of the team we can confirm arrangements for tomorrow’s match. Paul Morris will be in control of the team for tomorrow’s match assisted by Tom Prodomo.”

And a comment from chairperson Angela Speechley-Price read: “For future reference all news released by the club will be through our press officer Tim Allan as previously stated to help avoid situations where information gathered may be inaccurate, as has been the case recently.”

Bashley, who are seven points adrift of safety in Division One South & West, suffered a 6-0 defeat at the hands of leaders Merthyr Town as their league goal drought extended into a 13th hour.

Ian Traylor’s hat-trick, coupled with Kerry Morgan’s double and a Ryan Prosser strike, took to 74 the number of goals conceded by Bash in 21 league games. During the dismal run, they have scored only nine times, 12 fewer than the next lowest.
