GOALKEEPER Jason Harvell believes ambitious new chairperson Paula Henley has brought back the feelgood factor at Wimborne Town.

Henley’s appointment earlier this season has coincided with an upturn in the Magpies’ fortunes, both on and off the pitch at Cuthbury.

Boss Steve Cuss has led the club to within touching distance of the Southern League Division One South & West play-off places and into the second qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

Wimborne will tomorrow be looking to reach the third qualifying round for the first time in their brief history in the FA Trophy when they host Division One Central outfit Northwood (3pm).

Cuss’s men have already banked £5,200 in prize money in the competition – including knocking out Premier Division Dorchester – and will be looking to add another £3,250 to the pot.

“The place is buzzing,” said Harvell, who was Cuss’s first signing when he took over in July 2011.

“The new chairperson is ambitious and seems to want to push the club forward. She is excited and enthusiastic and has given everybody a boost.

“She has lifted the place and is always pushing everyone on and supporting the boys. The manager is awesome, we have a lot of good players and are all good friends so that helps.

“We are playing well, the spirit in the camp is good and we are working really hard. The draw has given us a chance to progress and we just need to maintain our good form.”

Harvell, who admits to having a “terrible memory”, is fully aware Wimborne’s recent record in FA Cup and FA Trophy could have been better, with just six wins from their past 19 games in the competitions.

He added: “I know it has been a bit miserable for us but a lot of it is budget-based. We have been trying to get by and secure mid-table finishes.

"But things have changed and we have good backing from the chairperson. We have had more success and have got more funds together as a result.

“For some reason, we seem to play better against higher opposition. In the past, we have been good at being complacent! We are more resilient now and defend better as a team which is why we are getting better results.”

Cuss will be forced to shuffle his pack as Magpies bid to extend to six matches their winning run with club captain Scott Arnold unavailable.

Adam Costello and exciting young prospect Zach Phelps could be in contention for a start. Wimborne will be without winger Sam Griffin, who is suspended, although Jamie Davidson returns.
