POOLE Town manager Tom Killick insists the prospect of tomorrow's derby date with Wimborne (7.45pm) still gets his pulse racing – even in the Red Insure League Cup.

Having become separated by Dolphins’ promotion to the Southern League Premier Division in 2013, last season’s cup derbies failed to live up to their billing, attracting fewer than 300 people to each.

But while the League Cup may not be the number-one priority for table-topping Poole, Killick still considers the match a worthwhile exercise as he prepares to put another one over the old enemy.

Discussing the derby atmosphere, Killick told the Daily Echo: “It’s not quite as intense now we’re not in the same league and I think that is accepted by people from both sides but I firmly believe the rivalry still exists – it certainly does for me.

“I don’t want to lose to Wimborne – the competition we play them in doesn’t matter to me and it shouldn’t to the players.

"I’ve been in charge for 10 years and we must have played Wimborne 20-odd times and only lost on a handful of occasions.

“The fact that I can recall those games and the feeling they gave me proves how you get caught up by it and how much it matters. Losing to Wimborne sticks with me and I don’t like it.

“We pride ourselves on recovering quickly from setbacks and Saturday’s defeat (at St Neots) has put even greater emphasis on this game.

"We might move things round a little but we have a strong squad and don’t want to go out.”

Killick said he would assess which first-team players needed any rest before deciding how to shuffle his pack and confirmed that youngsters Billy Lowes, Jack Dickson, Sam Davidson and Sam Bayston could come into contention.

For Wimborne, midfielder Jack Lupton is a doubt after limping off during Saturday’s 5-1 thumping of Clevedon Town. Goalkeeper Jason Harvell should be fit after picking up an injury in training last week.

Elsewhere in the League Cup, Bashley host Southern South & West rivals Sholing (7.45pm).
